An Eden Hazard prediction that should not come true

Real Madrid forward Eden Hazard is not one of the players Carlo Ancelotti trusts, though lately, the Belgian has proven useful to the manager. He was decisive against Elche in the Copa del Rey and then helped the team win 1-0 against Granada in LaLiga. Yet since that performance off the bench vs. Granada, Hazard has not been called upon.

Many Madridistas have taken Hazard’s lack of involvement as a reason to tick down the days on the calendar until the No. 7 leaves the club he dreamed of joining. And if he is finally, officially placed on the transfer market, then the reunion rumors to Lille and Chelsea will fully begin. Moreso the Chelsea rumors, given they have the budget and an even bigger nostalgia figure, in view of the heights Hazard reached in London before moving to the Bernabeu.

But if Hazard’s youngest brother – Kylian, not Thorgan, though we have heard from the Dortmund man regarding the eldest Hazard – is right in his assertion, it seems as if Eden has no intention of walking away from this dream-turned-nightmare in the Spanish capital.

In an interview with Het Laatste Nieuws, as relayed by AS, Kylian Hazard stated that he thinks his brother Eden will remain with Real Madrid until his contract runs out after the 2023-24 season.

Real Madrid, Eden Hazard must part ways as soon as they can

Call it an educated guess, since it comes from within the family, but unless Eden Hazard himself makes a clear statement regarding his future, we can only take these words from his brother as that. A guess. A prognostication. A prediction. Maybe even wistful thinking, because most of us want to see Hazard eventually work out in Madrid.

The reality is that it is better for Real Madrid and for Eden Hazard to go their separate ways. Hazard’s contract remains the same. He is making more than 20 million euros, which Los Blancos cannot afford. No backup player can justifiably make that sort of money. It is why Real tried to offload Gareth Bale multiple times – and why there were no takers.

But Bale will leave this summer as a free agent. Hazard remains locked in for a few more seasons, with no role in the XI for him. Vinicius Jr. has clearly seized the left wing role. Even if we say Eden could prove himself at LW, he would never get that chance. And he is not a fit for RW. Even more to the point, Kylian Mbappe is coming. Space is at a premium. Heck, there are two loanees in Takefusa Kubo and Brahim Diaz who can be part of the future at RW.

Hazard is not part of Madrid’s future. He is a transfer bust, as sad as it is to make that declaration. And none of this is Hazard’s fault, which is the saddest part. He was worth the money to many fans in November of 2019 once he started to hit his stride, but on one fateful Champions League night, the first injury struck and took that all away from him.

The man deserves to play. And it is best for him to go to a club he can connect with. Where better than Chelsea? Real Madrid has a new revolution – built around Mbappe, Vini, and maybe Erling Haaland – to worry about. Eden is surplus, maybe even an impediment on those wages. And he should never have to be thought of in that way. So while his brother may predict the No. 7 will stay at the Bernabeu, this is a prediction that cannot come true. There is no harmony if he stays. Because a player of that magnitude cannot be left on the bench for that long. Far from harmony, there will be outright acrimony.
