Although Real Madrid fans are busy fretting over the status of midfielder Toni Kroos, a new injury has surfaced before the big second leg tilt between PSG and Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu. But this latest injury blow is not to Los Blancos – for a change.

PSG superstar Kylian Mbappe, who scored the game-winning goal to lift his team to a win at the Parc des Princes over his potential future employers, suffered a knock in training. He took a hard tackle in training to his ankle and is reportedly in a lot of pain.

Not much is known about Mbappe’s status, but PSG fans know just how crucial he is to the team. On a team of superstars, Mbappe has proven to be THE superstar. He has 19 goals and 14 assists between Ligue 1 and the Champions League, making him the most balanced and prolific player in the world right now. Mbappe showed that in the first leg, certainly.

He was also missed by PSG this past weekend, where the Parisians fell to a Christophe Galtier-led team again. PSG looked lethargic without Mbappe, carrying little attacking threat in a 1-0 loss to one of Ligue 1’s top-four sides, Nice.

The latest update on Kylian Mbappe’s injury

According to a report from COPE, Mbappe has told those close to him that he will play in this Champions League match. As many expected, because of the magnitude of the match, Mbappe will most likely be out there. But keep an eye out for more updates.

So Real Madrid stand to benefit greatly if Mbappe cannot play on Wednesday night, though there will be some Madridistas who will be sad if Mbappe does not play. Many fans want to play against the best teams at their full strength, because that is the swagger Madrid are all about. Plus, Madridistas love Mbappe. Nobody wants to see him injured, and fans are already sad that Sergio Ramos will miss the second leg after an injury kept the Madrid legend out of the first leg.

Andres Onrubia of AS reports that Mbappe will undergo tests to see if he can make the match. PSG must fully rule out any serious injury, and then it is a matter of seeing where to go from there. But the initial signs are reportedly positive. Mbappe has likely avoided a significant injury.

So there may be more of a chance he can play than Kroos, whom Madridistas would like to see held out as a cautionary measure. PSG and Mbappe likely will eschew caution, given his importance and the importance of the game. Real Madrid have the luxury of great young midfielders who can play for Kroos. PSG have no replacement for Mbappe.
