RB Leipzig is one of those clubs in Europe that always seems to make great signings. They have maintained the identity Ralf Rangnick imparted to them when they first came into being, which means they sign the most exciting young talents in the world who fit their aggressive style of play. And it appears they have a Real Madrid Castilla player on their radar.

Carlo Ancelotti has been criticized by Madridistas for not integrating the Castilla players enough into his squad. Miguel Gutierrez got some starts at the beginning of the season, but he has been phased out since then. Antonio Blanco hasn’t gotten a sniff of action despite looking like a future star in 2020/21. Peter Federico got a few minutes against Athletic Bilbao in LaLiga, but he isn’t being used enough either.

However, none of those players are the ones being linked to Leipzig. Instead, Sky Germany, via BuLiNews.com reports that Germany’s third-biggest club after Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund is after a Real Madrid prospect with one year left on his contract who has yet to debut for the senior team.

Rafa Marin is one of three highly promising center back prospect in Castilla, along with Marvel and Pablo Ramon. Of these three players, Marin is the most ready to be in the first team. If Real do not see a market opportunity or prefer not to spend at all, he could even be the third or fourth center back in 2022/23.

RB Leipzig could sign Rafa Marin to replace another promising CB

That is, of course, unless Leipzig can convince him to join them this summer, making him a sporting offer to their first team that he cannot refuse.

But that is based on the future of a 2021 summer signing, Josko Gvardiol. After a promising Euros, Gvardiola has been better than expected in Leipzig’s back three. The young right back/right center back looks like a Real Madrid-quality player. He could be headed for a high-priced move to a big club this summer, and then Marin would replace him in the squad.

Madridistas should watch how this situation develops. Could Marin join Jorge de Frutos, Fran Garcia, and Sergio Reguilon as the next talented defensive player who is sold with a buy-back clause? Leipzig’s interest is both a reason to worry and a reason to remain confident in Marin’s future. After all, Leipzig don’t just sign anyone. Look at how recent additions Gvardiol and Mohamed Simakan are turning out in central defense.
