Real Madrid and their city rivals Atlético Madrid are looking to increase the depth of their squad by taking advantage of the recent special transfer window opened by FIFA, which allows foreign players to temporarily leave Russian and Ukrainian clubs to sign for new teams.
That comes from a report by Javier G. Matallanas of AS, and the player that the two Madrid clubs are looking to purchase is Shakhtar Donetsk’s 18-year old Vinícius Tobías, who plays as a right-back.
He is one of the best young full-backs to have emerged from Brazil in recent years, and as such Real and Atlético are studying the situation to get the player on loan until the end of the season.
The report further states that Atlético Madrid want to sign the player to resolve their right-back issues. The departure of Kieran Trippier to Newcastle United and the subsequent injury of Šime Vrsaljko has forced Diego Simeone to play Marcos Llorente in the right-back position, which is not his natural playing position even though he is familiar with it playing for both Atlético Madrid and the Spanish national team.
Real Madrid must try to sign Vinícius Tobías at all costs
Los Blancos have been monitoring Vinícius Tobías for a few years now. And it’s time for Real Madrid to finally get their hands on the youngster, who can really help the team with one of its most important needs at the moment: the right-back spot.
Dani Carvajal is the obvious choice to start whenever he is fit. But that’s the issue, isn’t it? Carvajal has had rotten luck with his fitness. He has missed 46 games (!) since the beginning of the 2020-21 season. The likes of Lucas Vázquez, Nacho, and Fede Valverde (on occasion) have been entrusted to cover for Carvajal in that cursed right-back spot. And while they have done a decent job, it’s time for Real Madrid to have a proper right-back.
Álvaro Odriozola, who’s on loan at Fiorentina this season, might be recalled to the squad for 2022-23. He has performed well this season, displaying levels close to those of his Real Sociedad days. But we don’t quite know for sure if the 26-year old will find a place within the squad.

As such, Real Madrid could get Vinícius Tobías on loan till the end of the season. If they like what they see from the teenager, they can go ahead to sign the player. He won’t even cost much. The right-back position needs immediate addressing, and the prospect of signing the Brazilian from Shakhtar might entice Los Blancos to make a move in the coming days.
