Real Madrid are as much in the race for Erling Haaland as Manchester City but as reports say, City are definitely leading the race right now. They reportedly have a deal in place with Erling Haaland, and even though it is said that Haaland prefers to move to Spain, it seems as if City might really get him next season.

But, here’s a bit of slightly good news your way: If Haaland does not end up joining Manchester City, there is only one club that the Norwegian can move to in Spain. And that is, of course, Real Madrid.

According to FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta, the club is effectively out of the Erling Haaland race. He didn’t put it exactly like that, but I’m pretty sure that’s what he was indicating.

Laporta said to Esport3, regarding the Haaland deal, that even if Barcelona were in the best possible financial position, there are “some deals” that they simply would not make for the sake of the club. They don’t want to put the club at risk again.

FC Barcelona didn’t really have a huge chance at Erling Haaland anyway

Laporta also said that they recognise that the fans are dreaming of some names and the club is working hard, but some deals are very difficult. Pretty obvious to guess what he’s referring to here, since we all know how costly it is to land a player like Erling Haaland.

I think it was obvious that Real Madrid were the only club that could’ve landed Haaland anyway. They have the financial condition required for a move like this, and even though they can’t quite compare with Manchester City, they’re still in a much better position than Barcelona.

Barcelona, of course, weren’t really in the race as properly as City or Real, but it’s good that they’ve basically taken themselves out of it. It leaves less space for rumors to pile up and gives us an idea of what’s going to happen next season.

Real Madrid are still going to try till the end to sign Haaland, but it’s looking a little less likely now. Obviously, not all is lost; Mbappe is still joining Real Madrid, and the fact that he’s incredible at this age already should make fans excited for the future, irrespective of whether Haaland ends up joining or not.
