Lyon FW Rayan Cherki

We have not heard the name “Rayan Cherki” in a while, but Real Madrid fans are always aware of the next big thing from the Lyon academy. It is an academy that has produced so many top talents over the years, with current Madrid superstar Karim Benzema obviously being the headliner.

There is hope Cherki can reach great heights one day, and Lyon are being careful about his development. Thus, he remains quite underrated and could be an achievable signing for Real even in the near future, though they would have to work out the contractual logistics of loaning him back to Lyon etc.

For now, Real Madrid are keeping their distance, allowing Cherki to develop in Lyon. But it is no secret that the young man dreams of joining Los Blancos, and there is no indication that his dream has changed in the slightest as the 2021/22 season has progressed.

Cherki hasn’t played much in Ligue 1 this season, but he is slowly getting more minutes and showing flashes of his world-class skills. The 18-year-old has been sensational in the Europa League with two goals and an assist in under 300 minutes, averaging a jaw-dropping 2.5 key passes and 2.3 dribbles completed per game.

Those are indications of what he can do one day. Real Madrid know he has the quality to be a Galactic player five years from now, but, like Lyon, they want to be careful about how he progresses. Because of this acknowledgment of his talent and the cautiousness from everyone interested in Cherki’s development, you get the feeling something special is brewing. He could be the next big bargain on the transfer market for Real, just as Camavinga was in 2021.
