Real Madrid will not give up on their dream of signing both Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe in the summer 2022 transfer window, as difficult of an operation as that may have seemed more than a year ago when the idea was first suggested.

But Los Blancos always had the leg up on both players. They have essentially secured Mbappe for free already, and with Haaland, there is a sense that he always had designs on Real when agreeing to a 75 million euro release clause upon signing with Borussia Dortmund from RB Salzburg in 2020. Madrid looked to be the likely next step in his career.

Of course, Madridistas cannot get overconfident, as Manchester City are very much in the race for the Norwegian superstar.

Per a report from Footmercato’s Santi Aouna and Aurelien Leger-Moec, Real Madrid are as determined as ever to sign both Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe this summer, with the Royal Whites seen as the favorites for the Dortmund star. That is juxtaposed with a report from a Manchester-based reporter who said the Citizens were favorites.

Eden Hazard’s wages are simply not justifiable

We can split hairs on who is ahead or not. Everyone knows the appeal of the Santiago Bernabeu is on another level, but nobody can argue with City’s money and recent success either, right?

What is more interesting is the aspect of the report stating that Real Madrid acknowledge the financial difficulties and are prepared to sell players to accommodate both massive salaries.

That includes selling Eden Hazard, who is said to be among those Real is actively trying to move.

That makes 100 percent sense. Hazard earns over 20 million euros a year, depending on which outlet you believe. Real Madrid cannot justify spending that much money on a veteran backup who does not really fit the squad and is rarely healthy.

It is best for everyone if club and player move on this summer. Finding a destination will be tough due to Chelsea’s sanctions, and that puts the onus on Real Madrid to part ways with the current No. 7 to make way for their next No. 7 and No. 9.

Mbappe is not the issue, but rather affording Haaland’s wages and agent bonuses. Mino Raiola’s desire for a high commission could be the thing that pushes Haaland away from Los Merengues and towards the Premier League champions.

And therefore, selling Hazard is of utmost importance. Luka Jovic and others could be sold, and Real will benefit from getting the wages of Isco, Marcelo, and, especially, Gareth Bale off the books as free agents.

Hazard is a main target to sell, though, as much as the fans still love him and root for him. Financially, he is a liability to Los Blancos. Selling him would help Real secure Haaland or could even help them sign the midfield and right back help that Madridistas crave, in addition to the superstar forwards.
