Real Madrid won’t give up on the dream of signing Erling Haaland, but there is no doubt that Manchester City are making it incredibly difficult for Florentino Perez to sign his second main target after Kylian Mbappe.
That’s because City have offered Haaland a massive contract that would make him the highest-paid player in the Premier League. It is an offer that the Merengue club cannot match, though they can come close enough to where Haaland would still be very highly-paid at the Bernabeu.
The crux of the issue is that Real are not willing to match City’s offer. They have made it clear they will not get into a bidding war for any player, and they are not going to go against that with Haaland.
Therefore, MARCA’s Jose Felix Diaz reports that Erling Haaland has to be willing to take less money to play for Real Madrid, otherwise he will have to take Manchester City’s offer. That’s the bottom line. Either Haaland sticks to his wish for Madrid, or he goes for City’s higher offer.
Erling Haaland has a very difficult decision to make
It is not as simple as money, though. Haaland’s main focus is not on money, but rather the overall sporting project and the team’s competitiveness. He wants to do well individually and collectively. But the thing is, even if Haaland thinks Real Madrid offer him the best ticket there, Manchester City are also quite close. Just as Real’s financial offer is close enough to City’s, despite not being as eye-watering.
So Haaland has a tough decision over these next few weeks as this transfer saga nears its end. The Premier League champions have certainly given the Norwegian superstar something to think about with this offer, and it is true that Haaland could join Los Blancos – which may be his dream club personally due to to the status the Merengues have – in a few years anyway.

Madridistas won’t cry if Haaland chooses City, though, of course, many fans want the pair of Galacticos this summer. And so does Perez. Wisely, however, Perez will not go too far financially to make this deal happen. The stability of the club is above all else. As we saw with Mbappe, he can still get superstars without trying to outbid state-run clubs. That is an impossible financial endeavor and one sure to lead to chaos, as we have seen with rivals Barcelona.
