On Wednesday, March 9 Real Madrid did what many thought would be impossible. Whether you believed in a comeback against Paris Saint-Germain or not, it was definitely improbable. Not only because Los Blancos went into the second leg a goal behind, but because they were two goals behind on aggregate by the time it reached the second half of the second leg. From seemingly out of nowhere, Karim Benzema stepped up to the plate and lead the team to a memorable 3-1 victory on the night. PSG were knocked out of the competition while Real Madrid booked their place in the quarterfinals.

Real Madrid could now be picked to take on one of seven other teams. Atletico Madrid, Villarreal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, and Benfica all await their fate in the tournament. Real Madrid are not the favorites but that doesn’t mean that the 13-time champions can’t end the season with the trophy in their hands.

History

Real Madrid have made a name for themselves in this competition. Winning the competition three times in a row is a historic feat that only guaranteed their success in it. The 13-time champions will always be a force to be reckoned with when it comes to the UEFA Champions League. This is why all opponents are extra cautious when going up against the Spaniards because everyone knows all too well what can happen if you aren’t at 100%. PSG’s match is just an example.

Of course, Real Madrid have been beaten in the past but regardless, they have managed to always keep it going until the final whistle. Last season, Chelsea were successful in knocking out the Spanish side but even though they were superior over the two-legs, Real Madrid never lost the chance to make their mark. Unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to be at the time.

The team is known as the Kings of Europe for a reason after being able to win the competition more than anyone else. They have created unbeatable memories on the way with the victory against PSG being the latest in a very long list.
