This isn’t the first time

It’s a little difficult to look back at the historic three-peat and feel like Real Madrid weren’t always favorites. Hindsight is 20/20 after all. However, they really weren’t for most of their competition wins.

Even in the 2017 final against Juventus, there were many who believed that Real Madrid simply didn’t have what it takes to make it all the way. A lot was against the Spanish side. No one has been able to win the competition back-to-back and the Italian side were truly one of the best in the world. However, they got it done and made history.

Only a year later, they took on Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side who were seen as a superior team to anyone else around. Real Madrid got the job done there as well. They made history once again by winning it three times in a row.

Real Madrid don’t have to be the favorites to win it. They just have to be present. Not being the favorites simply helps them find even more motivation to fight harder. They know what it’s like to fall hard but they also know how it feels to be on top of the world. This isn’t a bad Real Madrid squad, they are genuinely strong enough to win it all. That’s not to say they have the strongest team nor is it to say that improvements aren’t required. It’s just important to keep in mind that no matter who the opposition is, Real Madrid can beat them.

It’s always nice to be the team favored to win a game or a competition of this magnitude but they have been here before and they have ended up lifting the trophy at the end before as well.

There is still a long way to go between now and the final with some very tough teams in the way. There is good reason to be cautious but there is also very good reason to be hopeful. You can’t be a Real Madrid fan and not have the belief that they can get the job done. The belief dies when the final whistle is blown. Until then, everything is possible.
