Erling Haaland to Real Madrid transfer no longer viable?

Real Madrid have been in the Erling Haaland race for a very, very long time. It’s probably not been as long as it has for Kylian Mbappe, but Real have been in contact with Dortmund for at least a year now. It was clear that Haaland won’t be sold in 2021, but now, it’s almost certain that the Norwegian would leave this summer.

Where to, though? Well, Real Madrid and Manchester City have been the two main clubs in the race, and all the other clubs are now pretty much out of it.

According to MadridistaReal and Mario Cortegana, however, Real Madrid are not denying interest in Erling Haaland, but the whole operation is not being considered ‘viable’ at the moment. There is nothing as of now.

Erling Haaland’s transfer would cost Real Madrid too much money, anyway

According to Josep Pedrerol, the Erling Haaland transfer would cost around 150 million upfront, and I am not even including the player’s salary. The reporter says the transfer fee would be around 100 million, with 25 million each going to Haaland’s father and his agent, Mino Raiola. And on top of that, Haaland would earn 25 million each year as well.

Now, I am not saying he wouldn’t pay the money back with his performances on the pitch. He probably would, the man’s a generational talent. But, at the moment there are simply too many positions for the club to consider reinforcements for, and going for Erling Haaland would further delay those signings as well.

It is true that Haaland and Mbappe are two generational superstars, and the rest can come later, but the club needs to realise the other positions are important as well, and you need to have an all-round team to compete at all levels.

Besides, even if Real are able to get those players in future transfer windows, the five main factors that Haaland would base his decision on, Manchester City lead Real in most if not all of those factors. That matters a lot too.

So, if Haaland doesn’t arrive, it’s not the end of the world at all. Yes, it’s a pretty big blow, but Real would be able to purchase a centre-back, a right-back (hopefully), a central midfielder alongside Mbappe, who is probably the best player in the world right now anyway. Good stuff, still.
