Planning the ideal Real Madrid summer 2022 transfer window
The Galacticos
Real Madrid aim to make a big splash this summer and if reports are to be believed, two major transfers they expect to do are Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland.
Madridistas have been waiting for Mbappe to join the club as this transfer saga has now been ongoing for over four years. Even though there was hope that the French forward would join last summer for a fee of up to 200 million Euros, it didn’t happen. Now, all signs point to him joining for free at the end of the season. It has been taken for granted that this would happen but of course, nothing is finalized until either one of the clubs says so. Therefore, it would be best to wait and see how things play out.
As for Haaland, the Norwegian is expected to leave in the summer. There are a few clubs in the race to sign arguably the best striker of this generation. Real Madrid are looking for someone who can take the lead when Karim Benzema leaves and at the moment, Haaland is the best option. However, he is too good to be anyone’s backup so if he does join, the manager will need to find a way to integrate him into the team. He will also need to integrate Mbappe. Things could get a little difficult, but it’s not impossible.
Defensive Amendments
Real Madrid will have to make some changes to their defense this summer. Four of the five starters have proven that they can be depended on – Eder Militao, David Alaba and Ferland Mendy – while Dani Carvajal has had a poor time on the pitch. If he was to be sold (which is a big if), Real Madrid will need to look elsewhere. Even though many would see Achraf Hakimi as the ideal replacement, we all know how difficult it would be to negotiate with Paris Saint-Germain. Therefore, another name could be looked at as the perfect replacement.
Pedro Porro has been making a name for himself for Sporting and has proven that he deserves to make a big step up. The price will not be cheap yet it will be worth it. The club also have Alvaro Odriozola returning this summer from loan at Fiorentina but banking on him could be a big risk given his previous performances for the club prior to his loan move.
As for the opposite flank, Marcelo will be leaving in the summer and therefore Mendy will need a backup. There has been talk about the club bringing back Fran Garcia who is currently at Rayo Vallecano, but the easier and cheaper option is Miguel Gutierrez. The youngster already has experience in the senior team but it looks like Ancelotti wasn’t all that convinced with him earlier in the season. The time has come for the club to trust him more and give him the opportunities that he deserves.
Jesus Vallejo is also expected to move on and that would mean that Nacho is the only backup to the central defenders. Would it be worth looking at promoting Rafa Marin to the senior team at least occasionally? It would be interesting to see what the club has in mind for this.
A strong midfield addition
At the moment, Real Madrid do not have any adequate backup for Carlos Casemiro. Throughout the past few seasons, we have seen Zidane and Ancelotti try to force players to take up the spot to no avail. Toni Kroos couldn’t do it and neither could Valverde or Camavinga. The reason is simple: They are no defensive midfielders. This is not a position that you can just place someone in and hope it works. However, do you know who is a defensive midfielder? Aurélien Tchouaméni.
Tchouaméni has impressed with the French National Team as well as Monaco. It’s no secret that the club have him in mind and are closely studying whether they can finalize a deal this summer or not. But they are not the only ones trying to pry him away from Monaco as PSG have been looking into it as well as other European clubs. It remains to be seen whether Real Madrid can make the deal happen but this is a transfer that needs to be treated with high priority.

This could be a very big summer for the squad and Florentino Perez is aware that he has been silent long enough. Sooner or later, major changes will be required and all signs point to this summer as being the one.
Real Madrid will be hoping to offload Bale, Isco, Marcelo, Jovic, Mariano, Vallejo, Lunin (loan), Carvajal, Asensio and Ceballos. In return, they should be looking to bring in Mbappe, Haaland, Pedro Porro, Miguel, Odriozola and Tchouaméni.
