3 overlooked manager options for Real Madrid if Carlo Ancelotti goes
Xabi Alonso
It is safe to say that if the search is narrowed to these candidates, the former club icon would surely top the list. Despite his lack of experience, Alonso got Real Sociedad B promoted to the Second Division (an extraordinary feat) and turned down an offer to manage Borussia Monchengladbach to remain with the reserve side.
Since his playing career, many of his former managers and teammates have said he has everything to become a top manager. His position on the field required him to be tactically astute and played for some of the best managers in the game. Additionally, he has applied his trait in several top leagues (La Liga, Premier League, and Bundesliga) and is fluent in multiple languages.
His managerial journey also speaks well about his confidence and willingness to improve his craft. He could have gone back to any of the top clubs he played for, such as Bayern Munich who attempted to sign him as their reserve team manager. However, he returned to Real Sociedad to manage the reserves and got them promoted to the Second Division.
He was then offered the opportunity to manage Borussia Monchengladbach, but rejected it to coach in Second Division, despite the possibility that the team could get relegated back to Second Division B. While Real Sociedad B is in the relegation fight, the fact that he was able to get them promoted and with chances of staying in the Second Division is already an incredible achievement.
With all this in mind, if Real Madrid would seriously be interested in Alonso, they would need to bring him on after the conclusion of this season. Whether he keeps Real Sociedad B in Second Division or not, there is nothing more he can improve on with them and will surely want to take the next step. He is going to have much interest.

Additionally, it would be the ideal moment for him to take charge, because with the expiring contracts and the age of some important players, he would have full authority from the beginning. Along with this, the fans would be on his side and allow the club to be patient with him in the rebuilding process as he constructs the team in the way he feels will allow them to succeed.
