5 bold predictions for Real Madrid vs. Chelsea in the Champions League quarterfinal
5. Real Madrid to triumph in both legs
The 4-0 battering received at the hands of Barcelona in the Clasico has mellowed the jubilant atmosphere around Real Madrid after a memorable ‘Remontada’ against PSG. They now face Chelsea in the quarterfinals of the Champions League. Last year they faced the same opposition and were outclassed in all departments.
However, discount Real Madrid at your peril. I predict victory in both legs for the Los Blancos. On the face of it, this may sound like a laughable proposition. But there is a logic behind this prediction.
Real Madrid is in much better shape physically. During last year’s match, the entire team was on the brink physically. Especially in the second leg where it was clear as daylight that Ramos was half-fit and had forced himself to play. Ferland Mendy had just returned from injury. And Hazard played almost the entire 90 minutes without producing anything. Add to it the weird formation played by Zidane in the second leg where Vinicius played as a right-wing back. Yes, Chelsea was much better than Real Madrid in both legs but we were set up to fail in that match.
Having said all that there are no ifs and buts in sport. The draw has provided Real Madrid with an opportunity to avenge their loss. We are much better physically. Benzema and Mendy have had ample rest due to the international break. The midfield is not solely dependent on KCM as Valverde and Camavinga have provided a much-needed spark in the middle of the park. Militao and Alaba are in the pink of their health. And of course, we have the best goalkeeper on the planet on our side.

Real Madrid cannot discount Chelsea one bit. They are replete with talented players. Of course, they are the defending champions. But we are the kings of Europe. I hope and am confident that we will progress further in the Champions League and triumph in both legs, including this Wednesday at Stamford Bridge!
