Why Real Madrid should be concerned about Erling Haaland’s ankle injury

For Real Madrid fans, it is clear as day that their club really wants to sign both Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland this summer, and we know that it is a genuine possibility. Although I am much more confident about the Mbappe signing than I am about Haaland, it is still possible that the club ends up with both of these superstars on their team by the end of the transfer window.

Now, there are more concerns and uncertainties about Haaland than there are about Mbappe. We know Mbappe is an incredible player, perhaps a top-three player in the world right now, and Haaland is also on his way to acquiring that status but with a few hurdles, and those hurdles are largely fitness issues.

In fact, one recent injury that he took on his ankle is something that Real Madrid should definitely take note of and be concerned about, because the underlying aspects of it aren’t being talked about enough.

Haaland’s struggle with fitness and injuries is not unknown. He’s become more prone to injury than we previously thought, but according to Dortmund manager Marco Rose, Haaland is refusing to take an MRI scan for his latest injury on his ankle, and is taking painkillers before games so that he is able to play.

Haaland playing through an injury could be bad news for him and his next club

We’ve seen the best players play through injuries in important games. It’s not at all new, but that’s usually for a one-off game, or during a very, very crucial part of the season. I remember Benzema talking about himself, Ronaldo and Bale being 50% fit and still playing the Champions League final. The players want to feature in the big moments, and it is up to them if they want to risk the injury.

Haaland, especially considering the fact that he gets injured quite a bit, is still playing through an injury on his ankle, which could lead to him aggravating the injury in the long run. I am not saying it would; I’m not a doctor, and I hope that’s not the case, but there is enough evidence to consider that as a possibility in the long run.

If you want to add kerosene to the fire, consider this: Haaland has already missed more games (36) in his career due to his injury than Mbappe (33) has, despite playing fewer seasons. Now think about what Haaland is doing right now, wouldn’t it be better for him long term if he gets an MRI scan, and some rest so that the condition does not get serious in the future?

Their manager, Marco Rose, said that the injury is getting a little better, but it will take a few more weeks to fully heal. He even said this, “Because if you have a ligament or capsule injury, and you’re straining it and receiving repeated knocks, it does something to your body.”

I do not think that’s a good sign, by any means.

It’s something Real Madrid should take note of, considering how Haaland is such a huge part of Florentino Perez’s project for the club. They cannot afford to make mistakes with something like this, so maximum research, knowledge and care should be taken while making the decision of signing Haaland next season.
