The most likely Real Madrid transfer besides Kylian Mbappe, Antonio Rudiger

For months, Real Madrid fans have been told to treat the marquee free-agent signing of Kylian Mbappe as if it were a done deal and not to worry about the media reports stating optimism on the part of PSG. While that is easier said than done, it does seem like all logical indicators point to Mbappe finally becoming a Madridista this summer.

But Los Blancos won’t stop there with making upgrades. Already, we have been told to expect Antonio Rudiger to join him as the third big-ticket free-agent signing in the last two summer windows, as the Chelsea center back will reportedly sign a four-year deal with the Merengues after on-and-off courtship through the 2021/22 season.

Who else will join Madrid this summer to complete the squad and help Mbappe in his quest to becoming the next Cristiano Ronaldo-type figure at the Santiago Bernabeu?

Madridistas have dreams of Aurelien Tchouameni, but a recent report from MadridistaReal cautions against fans getting their hopes up. They mention left back Fran Garcia, whom Real Madrid can buy back for just five million euros from Rayo Vallecano, as a possible signing in addition to Rudiger and Mbappe.

Fran Garcia is more likely for Real Madrid, but Tchouameni should be the priority

While Tchouameni is a possibility, he is being pursued by big Premier League clubs. Chelsea, Manchester United, and Liverpool figure to be the three most involved, and the Reds could emerge as favorites if they are serious about paying Monaco to sign the Frenchman.

Real Madrid should obviously be serious, too, as he is already a world-class midfielder and probably the only player who can replace Casemiro as the No. 6 in the next few years. Yet the finances may be seen as difficult by the cautious Madrid, with MadridistaReal adding that arrivals beyond Fran Garcia would be dependent on departures. That matches the policy we saw Madrid take in 2020 and 2021 when they were saving up for Mbappe.

But Mbappe will not cost 200 million euros. He will be, in terms of his transfer fee, completely free. So you’d think Madrid would be able to spend that money on Tchouameni. And a right back on top of that. I mean, with Erling Haaland set to join Manchester City, what is the excuse now?

Hopefully, Real Madrid are more active than this, but it does make sense to consider Garcia the most likely “third” signing. His cost is extremely low, and he is coming off another masterful performance against Real Madrid’s rivals Barcelona, in which Rayo Vallecano upset La Blaugrana 1-0 again.

A great athlete, Garcia can get minutes alongside Ferland Mendy, which would lead to Miguel Gutierrez going on loan. Miguel does not need a loan and should already be pushing Mendy for starts, but at five million euros, Garcia may be a bargain Madrid cannot pass up on. He is already worth four times that amount in my book.
