Haaland might not agree to play the second fiddle to Karim Benzema

The last reason has less to do with why Real Madrid is better off without Haaland and more of why Haaland is better off without Real Madrid. He is a young player who is not even in his prime. Yet, he is punching so high establishing himself as one of the two most sought-after players in the market. I am sure he would be taking a major look into the promised role in his contract.

The truth is Real Madrid cannot guarantee a regular starter’s role to Haaland right now. There’s Karim ‘the dream’ Benzema in that role right now. Although he is 34, he has shown no signs of slowing down. Moreover, judging by the transfer behavior Real has recently shown, getting someone in their prime to be a quick solution as Benzema’s back-up can be an option. Raul de Tomas, for example.

This makes sense when you add up the tactically inflexible profile that Haaland brings. Kylian Mbappe, on the other hand, can operate on the wings and in the long run, would be Benzema’s perfect heir in the central role. The Parisian brings the playmaking abilities, abilities to drop deep, go wide and help the build-up. Hence, if the club is keen on investing in youth, it should make sense for the bigger picture. With Haaland, there are just too many variables involved.

As I see it, Mbappe’s profile makes much more sense for Los Blancos and they should certainly steer clear of the Borussia Dortmund hitman. There’s nothing wrong with the way Haaland plays, but I am afraid that he might not suit Real Madrid’s needs. We’ve seen signings going wrong in recent times and adding to them might not be the best idea given the crop of players look so well set for the future. The Real Madrid board must only look for logical additions right now. And, Haaland isn’t one.
