Real Madrid have eight players nominated for LaLiga Team of the Season
Real Madrid have, even with all their problems, have had a splendid season. They have wrapped up the league with four matches still to go, and they also produced a near-impossible comeback win over Manchester City to book their place in the Champions League final. It’s still quite unbelievable to think about it.
No one would’ve believed this at the start of the season, but here we are.
Speaking of the league, though, Real Madrid will be dominating the season awards, as they have been the runaway leaders of the title for a while now, and have a 15 point lead at the top of the table.
Now, EA Sports and La Liga have released the list of nominees for the La Liga team of the season for 2021-22, and Real Madrid have eight players fighting for their spot: Thibaut Courtois, Eder Militao, David Alaba, Casemiro, Toni Kroos, Luka Modric, Vinicius Jr. and, of course, Karim Benzema.
Their rivals, Barcelona, have four players. Sevilla have six, and Atleti have four as well.
Seven out of the eight Real Madrid players that are nominated should make the cut
I know it probably won’t be seven players from the same club that get the nod for the team of the season, but it should be. Everyone except for Casemiro, in my opinion, deserves a spot in the team of the season.
Casemiro has had a subpar season, in all honesty. I think it’s one of his worst ones, and although I am sure he will make a return to form, and that his presence is still very important, this season proved that there is a backup needed for Casemiro.
If Fede Valverde and Eduardo Camavinga had played a few more games than they did, we probably would’ve seen them on the list as well, though.
Oh yeah, before anyone says Toni Kroos doesn’t deserve the nod, please think of it without the recency bias. OK, Kroos hasn’t had the best of games as of late, but it’s about the whole season. Does no one remember how big of an impact this guy had when he returned from injury?
Kroos was one of the biggest reasons why Real Madrid were able to build up a big gap between them and the rest of La Liga, and everyone should acknowledge that. I can say the same about Militao, who’s had a few rough games, but has been fantastic this whole season.

The rest should be unanimous choices though. There is no goalkeeper better than Thibaut Courtois at the moment. David Alaba has been sensational this season, Luka Modric is, once again, the best midfielder in the world at the age of 37, Vinicius Jr. would’ve taken the Most Improved Player award if one existed in this sport, and Karim Benzema is going to win the Ballon d’Or. Easy work for the best team in the world.
