Luka Jovic

After joining from Eintracht Frankfurt for 60 million Euros, a lot was expected from Luka Jovic. He shined in the Bundesliga and he was expected to do similarly when making his move to Spain. Injuries, off the pitch issues, and below-average performances have all halted his development in the country. He even went back to Eintracht Frankfurt on loan for six months to attempt to get back what he once had but unfortunately, things simply aren’t looking too great for the Serbian.

This isn’t to say he isn’t talented though. In the box, there aren’t many players better than him. Jovic is a traditional number nine which is something that Real Madrid do not have space for on a consistent basis. When looking for a goal, when moving forward constantly, that’s when Jovic has been good when playing for the club. It’s difficult to compare anyone in the current game to Karim Benzema but that’s the type of ‘striker’ that Real Madrid need. This is why we have also seen Ancelotti try playing with a false nine as Marco Asensio, Isco, Gareth Bale and even Luka Modric were all chosen to try their luck up front.

Luka Jovic needs to play occasionally and deserves to as well. He won’t do it at Real Madrid next season nor for the few seasons after it. It’s clear to him and the club that his future lies elsewhere and the Serbian looks open to a move abroad. However, it will all depend on the offers that arrive. If an offer appealing enough to the club comes in, then they will have to hope that Jovic is convinced by the contract as well. It’s going to be a long summer for the striker but one that he will need to think about long and hard.
