4. A much-needed win against Celta that raised the spirits of the team

Physical blows might have a definite recovery time, but the recovery time for a mental blow is unpredictable. Real Madrid received one such huge mental blow in the form of a 0-4 Clasico loss in March, and that humiliating defeat was obviously not received well by the players and the club.

There was a lot of talk about Ancelotti’s choices, players’ abilities and many more issues following the nightmarish game, but the team was still competing in LaLiga and Champions League and needed to recover mentally from that blow. And that could’ve been possible only with a win.

And Real Madrid got that win in an away league game against Celta Vigo, winning the game 2-1. The team put in one of the worst performances of the season in that game and won the game by converting two out of the three penalties awarded to the team. Of course, it did raise some controversy and people began doubting if Real Madrid can go any further in the season, but the three points mattered the most to the players, and they got them.

In a long league season, a team would have to face some obstacles at times, but it is important for the team to clear them and move on quickly. Real Madrid did the exact same thing against Celta. Karim Benzema’s penalty goal after missing a penalty wasn’t the goal that the fans wanted but was something they needed. At the same time, we shouldn’t forget that not every win can be dominating goal-fests.

This win also helped the team to prepare well for the Chelsea fixture in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League, with the first leg taking place just four days after the game.
