Real Madrid have a roster full of great players, and it is often difficult for some talents to break through to the first team. Through no fault of theirs or even the coaching staff, they are unable to get the minutes they need and have earned, simply because the quality of the squad is too great – as is the expectation to win every game.

No player’s situation better exemplifies this than that of Andriy Lunin. The young goalkeeper has only received a handful of opportunities this season, because he is sitting behind the very best keeper on the planet, Thibaut Courtois.

Lunin was great in the Copa del Rey, positive against Atletico Madrid, and was recently a massive standout against Cadiz. But despite his excellent performances, it is unlikely the 23-year-old will earn himself more minutes at Real Madrid in 2022/23 because of Courtois’ presence.

According to a report from MARCA’s Mario Cortegana, Andriy Lunin is thus contemplating a another loan transfer for the 2022/23 season.

Remember, the top goalkeeper prospect spent previous seasons on loan at Leganes, Real Valladolid, and Oviedo. Clearly, Lunin has earned a much bigger loan move than those clubs. He already looks like one of the best keepers in LaLiga, and he could prove that elsewhere.

Of course, Cortegana writes that Lunin will be choosing his next destination carefully. He wisely does not take leaving Madrid lightly, as the wrong loan move could set him back again. As we have seen with Reinier at Dortmund, loans can be risky for players.

Lunin has a bright future ahead of him and will be an absolute top keeper one day, no matter his path to that destination. Real Madrid fans understand his future may not lie at the Santiago Bernabeu, but they would love to see him excel regardless.
