Another player has been waiting in order to join Real Madrid for free
Real Madrid will have a very productive summer transfer window when it comes to bringing in free agents. The club has been prioritizing free transfers and young investments in order to keep competing financially with state-run clubs and Premier League giants. By focusing on investments like Fede Valverde, Vinicius Jr., and Rodrygo Goes in addition to veteran free agents like David Alaba, Real are able to sign world-class talents while still maintaining their financial health.
This year, Real are fully expected to add two world-class talents in free agency. They already have a “Here We Go” for Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger, and Kylian Mbappe is hinting that his decision to join Madrid will come soon, too.
Now, it seems like they could add a third free agent, albeit one not quite on the same scale as either Mbappe or Rudiger.
According to a report from Serie A transfer expert Mirko Calemme for AS, Napoli goalkeeper David Ospina is set to become a free agent this summer because he has been resisting extensions from the Azzurri. His goal is to leave the door open for a reunion with former Napoli manager Carlo Ancelotti, signing with Real Madrid.
Real Madrid could easily sign David Ospina if Andriy Lunin leaves
Ospina has played for both Arsenal and Napoli, so he has been at notable clubs. But the Merengues would be a different step forward in his career.
Real Madrid are considering signing Ospina as the new backup for Thibaut Courtois. Andriy Lunin is still deciding on his future, but he could very well decide to go out on loan this summer. That would be his smartest move, given he needs minutes.
Napoli want to keep Ospina around, but he is also wise to keep his options open. Playing for Real Madrid could be a great way for Ospina to close out his career and win trophies, getting a different kind of experience in a backup role to Courtois.

Ospina would be an affordable, experienced, and competent replacement for Lunin. Real Madrid would want to keep Lunin around if they can, as he is even better than Ospina. But in reality, a loan is best for both Lunin and Real long-term. So Ospina is absolutely a third free transfer that could happen for the Merengues in 2022.
