As Real Madrid prepare to face Liverpool on May 28 in the Champions League Final, Madridistas are wondering about the status of star center back David Alaba. Recent struggles from Eder Militao have made Alaba’s return from injury all the more important.

The Merengues struggled defensively in the first leg vs. Manchester City with Alaba hobbled in the first half and injured in the second, but they were able to play much better in the second leg, thanks to an inspired performance from Nacho Fernandez.

Alaba has been expected to be available for the final after missing the last several matches, but there was recently word of him suffering a setback that could potentially jeopardize his big return vs. Liverpool.

David Alaba is still expected to play in Champions League Final despite overload

But Sergio Quirante recently clarified that Madridistas should not be worried about the center back’s status. He has an overload that he suffered on Tuesday in training, but he does not have an adductor injury. David Alaba should be ready to return for the final despite this.

Real Madrid fans will not rest easy until they see Alaba on the pitch and playing well without pain against Liverpool, as they saw Alaba return from an injury against City that he was not ready for.

Alaba has been a revelation for Madrid in 2021/22, wearing the No. 4 shirt left by Sergio Ramos with pride. The replacement for the legendary captain has been world-class and easily Real’s most important defender. He is needed against a Liverpool front line that includes three of the best forwards in the world in Luis Diaz, Sadio Mane, and Mohamed Salah.

If Alaba can start without pain or issues, Real Madrid will like their chances of controlling the match between the Austrian and his former Bayern teammate Toni Kroos, in addition to the defensive solidity the ex-Hoffenheim man offers.
