Kylian Mbappe will prevent Real Madrid from making a major addition

Real Madrid had planned on Kylian Mbappe arriving at the Santiago Bernabeu this summer. Everything seemed done, but at the last second, the forward has chosen to stay with PSG, where he received a jaw-dropping financial offer, as well as the ability to make certain decisions for the club. He has some of the powers of a sporting director.

As part of those powers, Mbappe is set to bring his former Monaco sporting director Luis Campos with him to PSG, per MARCA.

To make matters worse for Madridistas, Campos was supposed to join Real Madrid WITH Mbappe this summer. Los Blancos had already tried to sign him to their front office in a previous transfer window.

Why does Campos joining PSG instead of Madrid matter? Campos is one of the best scouting minds in world football and one of the most respected sporting directors. This is a case of PSG hiring someone who had beaten them twice previously.

Luis Campos could have helped Real Madrid sign even more top talents

Yes, Campos put together the Ligue 1-winning squads at Lille and Monaco that dethroned PSG – a rare feat in the Qatar era of the club. Campos did so by signing great young talents for cheap, meshing them into a team that fit their strengths, and then selling them for significant profits.

Real Madrid need to make great signings of young talents who can develop into stars in order to compete with clubs like PSG and Manchester City that have bottomless pocketbooks. Fede Valverde, Rodrygo Goes, Eduardo Camavinga, and Vinicius Jr. are four recent successes that have been vital in Madrid making the Champions League Final – thanks to Juni Calafat’s eye.

Campos and Calafat together would have been very important to Madrid long-term, perhaps just as important as bringing in Mbappe to an attack with Karim Benzema, Vini Jr., and Rodrygo.

Now, Campos is an asset to PSG, shifting the balance of power even more in Ligue 1. PSG have produced some great talents of their own, though these players have flourished elsewhere, such as Bundesliga stars Moussa Diaby and Christopher Nkunku (the Player of the Year, no less). Campos only makes PSG stronger, and Mbappe has taken him away from Real Madrid, too.
