Kylian Mbappe betrayed Real Madrid and undermined the stability of football

It is finally over now, not in the way we expected, but there is a reduced mental weight on the minds of those who were truly involved in this transfer fiasco. Things took an unexpected turn only a few days ago when it was announced that Kylian Mbappe might not sign for Real Madrid and rather renew with Paris Saint-Germain, which he is currently set to do according to many credible sources.

The Kylian Mbappe saga culminates with a grief that is unlike the one experienced last season; it is terrible treachery. A book that was meant to write far more than “what will be” will now just be closed at “what could have been.”

Let me get this straight: Real Madrid were duped and manipulated by Mbappe and his entourage to secure the massive offer from Paris Saint-Germain. Los Blancos were probably always being played in this manner.

Five years, five freaking years of rubbish, deceit, and hollow commitments. Mbappe’s remarks have lost their goodwill and significance, and it all boils down to disgrace for trusting a man of straw who cannot stand his own words.

There is no reasoning for what has transpired in the last few hours; the dishonesty has devastated the fans more than ever before. The crowd that chanted his name, and hailed him for scoring against their own team at home has been disrespected, but in the end, Real Madrid will have the last laugh, as they have always since the beginning.

Kylian Mbappe has offended not just Real Madrid, but also the morals of the beautiful game

There is a lot to learn from this transfer drama, as well as a number of questions Real Madrid must answer for themselves, which they will undoubtedly do shortly. They will retaliate as fiercely as they were humiliated, but that is not the issue; Real Madrid had nothing to lose, but football did.

Football is evolving quickly, and in the process, it is losing the bedrock upon which it was formed. State-owned clubs are a new reality in the dynamic equation of football, and there are more drawbacks than benefits that have already begun to emerge as a result of Kylian Mbappe’s recent movement.

State-owned clubs have long thought that they can run the sport the way they want, and Mbappe’s renewal has solidified their already strong confidence in their ability to abuse power and purchase dreams with money.

If this isn’t a breach of football ideals, I don’t know what is. Paris Saint-Germain have succeeded in purchasing a man’s conscience and destroying his goal of playing for Real Madrid only via their financial might.

This is not just Real Madrid’s loss, but the loss of every football organisation managed by fans and people who genuinely care about the game, and Kylian Mbappe has played a significant role in jeopardising the integrity of the beautiful game.

What makes matters worse is that the authorities surreptitiously back clubs like Paris Saint-Germain and their state. You must remember the incident that occurred after Real Madrid defeated PSG in the second leg earlier this season, in which Nasser Al-Khelaifi was apparently so enraged that he assaulted the refereeing officials; what disciplinary action resulted from that? Nada, nothing.

Following La Liga president Javier Tebas’ public condemnation of PSG’s unfair act, it has been reported that La Liga may file an official complaint regarding a breach of financial fair play by the French club in securing Mbappe’s signature by offering a reported humongous amount of 300 million euros just as signing bonus and another 100 million euros net salary for three years until 2025. However, in my opinion, the outcome will be the same as before.

The ethics and stability of the beautiful game are all at risk, and Kylian Mbappe has just exacerbated the situation. All I can say for now is that the player’s door at Real Madrid may be permanently closed because Florentino Perez may give you a chance once or twice, but a third time will/must never happen.

We wish Mbappe the best and congratulate him on his extension, but I am certain that he could have created a brighter destiny for himself at Real Madrid, an opportunity that he has already missed many times and may have missed for the last time. Real Madrid only comes knocking once, and if you miss the call, you will miss it forever.
