Real Madrid thought they needed Kylian Mbappe to win the Champions League, but as it turns out, all they needed was the factors that they already had, and the players that would go to war for this club. Real Madrid are champions of Europe once again.
Of course, after such a huge transfer debacle, there were going to be a lot of questions for the players regarding the whole thing, which made me feel a bit uneasy considering we had a Champions League final to play for, and all the players were asked about was Mbappe.
However, such is life for footballers, and Karim Benzema, after the game, was asked about the same thing, to which he said this:
Well, we have enough evidence to prove that Karim Benzema is a top, top professional. He says it doesn’t impact their relationship, which might be true, but might not be. But Benzema wouldn’t publicly try to cause friction in their relationship because, at the end of the day, they still are teammates for France.
And, even if you put that aside, Benzema’s not wrong. Real Madrid will always be Real Madrid, with or without Mbappe. They literally won the Champions League without him, and with a few more signings, I wouldn’t bet against them next season, either.
The team is so, so united and connected. I haven’t really seen anything like this, even in the three-peat era. There’s no player in the squad who thinks he’s above the team, and there is no player in the squad who would not want to give their all for the badge and their teammates.

Besides, it’s not like Real Madrid won’t have a superstar if Mbappe doesn’t arrive. We literally saw the superstar score the only goal in the Champions League final, and we saw another potential superstar take the team to the final by scoring two goals in two minutes. This team definitely has the talent. They have all the ingredients to win the Champions League again. And who knows, they might actually do it again next season, just to show you that they can.
