Top Real Madrid attacking transfer target increasingly likely to be sold this summer
By Parshva Shah
Real Madrid have wrapped up an incredible season, first winning LaLiga Santander pretty comfortably, their 35th such league win, while also completing the double in a 1-0 win against Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League final. The ‘Big Ears’ returns to the Bernabéu after four years, and Los Blancos are the undisputed kings of Europe as they won their 14th UCL, twice as more as any other team.
Now, with the season over and the celebrations cooling down gradually, the attention will turn to strengthening the squad for the 2022-23 season, where the Real players will be expected to play over 70 games. Real Madrid have already sealed the signing of defender Antonio Rüdiger, who will sign on a free transfer, while the club is now in direct talks with AS Monaco for the signing of French defensive midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni.
But while the club waits to officially announce the signing of Rüdiger and the ‘imminent’ signing of Tchouaméni, there have been reports emerging in Germany that a top Real Madrid attacking transfer target might be sold this summer and that the probability of it happening is increasing with every passing second.
Serge Gnabry continues to stall contract talks with Bayern
According to German football magazine Kicker and German publication Sport Bild (via Bundesliga News), Bayern Munich are reportedly running out of patience with winger Serge Gnabry and will look to offload the 26-year-old this summer.
The player, according to the same report, has stalled contract extension talks with the club, and that has not gone down well with the higher-ups at the Bavarian giants. They are agreed to several demands from the player, yet there hasn’t been a concrete response from him.
Kicker also reported that Gnabry hasn’t accepted the €19 million annual package from Bayern Munich. Now it’s either Gnabry accepting the offer from the club, or the club deciding to sell him, a process which is apparently already underway.
A lot of Premier League sides, including Gnabry’s previous club Arsenal, are interested in the right winger. Fabrizio Romano did mention that the club held internal discussions with Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti in February regarding the signing of the player, but didn’t make any offer as their focus is on signing Tchouaméni.
However, Gnabry’s reaction to Bayern’s latest offer, or rather a lack of, might lead Real Madrid to speed up the process of signing Gnabry once the Tchouaméni signing is sealed. It has been reported that the German international would cost €40 million. With just one year left on his contract, Real Madrid should invest such a low fee on a winger that’s not only world-class, but someone who will add depth to that shallow right wing spot in the squad.
While Rodrygo has proven in the last two months that he can be relied upon, he lacks both experience and competition. Marco Asensio isn’t as consistent as in his initial days, even though he can score the odd goal at will, while Fede Valverde has been used as a starter in a hybrid role, most recently in the Champions League final against Liverpool, delivering the match-winning assist.

Rodrygo is not a natural right winger, so getting Gnabry only makes sense. He is 26, he is fast, he has experience (already a Champions League winner), and is a good goalscorer too. Getting him SHOULD become a priority for Real Madrid once the club has signed Tchouaméni. The forward line will need reinforcements if they are to compete for everything next season.
