Real Madrid were interested in Kylian Mbappe quite some time before they realized he was just using Los Blancos in order to obtain as massive of an offer as possible from Qatar/PSG.

But you may have forgotten that PSG themselves were interested in a Real Madrid left winger.

They had been monitoring Vinicius Jr. since the 2019/20 season, and in the summer 2021 transfer window, they demanded the Brazilian and cash if they were to part ways with Mbappe. Florentino Perez stood firm and believed in his signing from Flamengo, even as many Madridistas would have been wiling to part ways with Vini Jr. in order to acquire Kylian.

And thank goodness Flo did that. Vini went on to have a monster breakout season in 2021/22, including scoring the matchwinner in the Champions League Final vs. Liverpool. In the city of Paris, no less!

However, Perez rejecting PSG’s transfer approach for Vinicius Jr. did not end the Qatar-owned club’s pursuit of the young forward.

PSG offered Vinicius Jr. 40 million euros in salary

According to a report from MARCA’s Mario Cortegana, PSG pestered Vinicius Jr. for months from November to March, begging the Real Madrid player to not renew with the club he loves – the club he always points to the badge of – in order to take their outrageous 40 million euro offer including business opportunities in Qatar. That’s a financial offer Real could not come close to meeting, by the way. It would disrupt even their own high wage structure.

PSG have been able to spend unethically and are in UEFA’s pocket. Having already spent an outrageous amount of money these past several transfer windows and spitting in the face of FFP while stabbing it with a harpoon, PSG were busy making unethical offers to an under-contract player at the club they see as their biggest challenge to their ultimate sportswashing goal of winning the Champions League to validate Qatar.

UEFA will, of course, do nothing. President Aleksander Ceferin is buddies with PSG’s president Nasser Al-Khelaifi, who just so happens to be the ECA chair.

Real Madrid, despite not signing Mbappe, have consistently gotten the better of PSG where it actually matters. Vinicius Jr. did not listen to their offers, of course. He cannot be bought out like that. Unlike many others, he actually has morals.

Same with Aurelien Tchouameni, who never showed any inkling of interest in PSG. And we can say that about Eduardo Camavinga, too, from the previous transfer window.

Even so, players like Vini and Tchouameni should not be put in a situation where UEFA’s cowardice allows a state-owned, sportswashing enterprise to submit these kinds of offers as a way of flexing a financial muscle that should never have been juiced-up to this level in the first place.
