RW Rodrygo Goes

Although Rodrygo Goes is a prime candidate to be a breakout superstar in 2022/23 after an incredible close to the 2021/22 campaign – particularly in the Champions League, which has become something of a signature competition for him – the winger is indeed under quite a bit of pressure.

Rodrygo is the third player on the list who was signed in the 2019 transfer window for at least 50 million euros. It looks like that fee could be a bargain, if Rodrygo continues on his current trajectory.

But there is no tougher job than being a starting forward at Real Madrid. After winning the position last season over Marco Asensio because of his defensive work and creativity, Rodrygo now has to prove he can be a full-time starter on the right wing. He has a lot to prove. Though he came up clutch with his goals in the Champions League knockouts, Madridistas want to see a full season of goal-scoring from a player whose four goals last season in LaLiga were a career high.

Real Madrid expect more from a starting player at the position. Rodrygo needs to be a difference-maker in every game and should have double-digit goals in all competitions at a minimum. Real are looking at players like Serge Gnabry on the transfer market, for example, so Rodrygo could be in line for a lot of competition, too. Plus, we can’t forget about Castilla man Peter Federico, who turned the heads of Madridistas in his cameo against Athletic Bilbao last season.
