Real Madrid Femenino have set their sights on strengthening their squad for the next season after finishing third in their division last year. It is not surprising that the Spanish team has high expectations for the upcoming season and will make substantial acquisitions to bolster their roster.

Real’s venture into the market has just begun with the signing of a midfielder from Manchester City. After a long-awaited summer, Real Madrid Femenino finally revealed the signing of 27-year-old Caroline Weir from Manchester City on a free transfer.

It is significant to note that the Scotland international carries with her a wealth of experience, having spent nine years in England, including spells with Arsenal, Bristol City, Liverpool, and Manchester City.

Weir played as an offensive midfielder for Man City for four seasons, scoring 38 goals throughout that time. Weir has developed into one of the WSL’s and the world’s most dangerous midfielders. That explains Real Madrid’s interest in her.

Caroline Weir is a great signing for Real Madrid Femenino

Weir’s ability to be creative with the ball at her feet truly sets her apart from other midfielders. She can attract bodies because of her close control and swift direction changes before setting up an open teammate.

For Manchester City Women, Weir played in a double pivot. She can be categorised as a deep-lying playmaker who anchors the midfield and transitions the ball between the defence and the offence while serving as a link for the players who are more aggressive. Weir has a natural talent for handling the ball and a keen eye for a pass.

She was a crucial part of the team for City because of her ability to switch between playmaking and dribbling.  She won two FA Cups and two League Cups during her four outstanding seasons at Man City.

Although Caroline Weir’s position in the Real Madrid team has been questioned, I am confident that she will be used to her full potential. Weir is also the player to watch in derbies since she enjoys scoring big goals, and her spectacular goal in the Manchester Derby has previously been nominated for a Puskas Award.
