Manchester United have shaken up the summer transfer market by signing Casemiro from Real Madrid for a fee that could rise up to £70 million including add-ons. It is a move that not many fans could have imagined happening, even last week. The 5-time Champions League winner could prove to be a tremendous addition for the Red Devils while a major loss for Los Blancos.

He might not be the last Real Madrid star to swap Santiago Bernabeu for Old Trafford this summer though, if things fall into place.

As reported by Bernabeu Digital, according to information from journalist Tomás González-Martín, Real Madrid offered Manchester United Marco Asensio.

Asensio’s current deal with Real Madrid runs out next summer and a contract extension has not been agreed till now. At this point of time, he is not an undroppable part of this team. As a result, it would make sense for Los Blancos to try to secure a transfer fee out of the Spaniard’s departure this summer, instead of risking seeing him walk away for nothing a year later.

When Asensio first broke into the first-team picture at Real Madrid, he was expected to be a future superstar at the club.

After some very promising early displays for Los Blancos, things have certainly slowed down drastically for the Spaniard though. He has never managed to nail down a spot in the starting XI and fulfil the early promise that he had shown.

With him entering the final year of his contract, and first-team chances looking slim, it would make sense for both Real Madrid and Asensio to part ways.

On the other hand, Manchester United need to strengthen in their forward areas and someone like Asensio could prove to be a solid signing for the Red Devils, as he is expected to be available for a bargain.

One has to remember that while it feels like Asensio has been around for ever, he is still just 26 years of age and could still turn his career around, and reach his true potential.
