Casemiro has left Real Madrid to join Manchester United. That is a statement that not many fans would have been expecting to hear even a week ago. That’s how football works though, and now, Los Blancos find themselves without one of their most experienced and reliable players, even though they are set to receive a transfer fee which could rise up to £70 million with add-ons.

It will be interesting to see how Real Madrid go about replacing Casemiro this season. It will certainly not be easy. But interestingly, Carlo Ancelotti has even hinted that the club might end up signing no one at all and depend on the six midfielders that they already have.

While Real Madrid do have a lot of quality in the middle of the park already, not bringing in someone to replace Casemiro would be a huge risk, especially having seen Barcelona make so many big signings this summer.

Thus, Real Madrid should have their eyes on potential replacements. They have been linked with the likes of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Bruno Guimaraes, but there is another Premier League star would could be an excellent choice, and that is Portuguese international and Wolves star, Ruben Neves.

Real Madrid should target Portuguese star to replace Casemiro

There are a few reasons for Real Madrid to target someone like Neves. On one hand, he is just 25 years of age and is expected to get even better than he already is.

Secondly, he has plenty of experience competing at a very high level in the Premier League and has shined playing for Wolves, who are not traditionally a big club in England but have done very well, with Neves being one of their star players.

And finally, it is not expected to take a extravagant transfer fee to sign Neves, and one would feel Wolves would be more open to letting him join Real Madrid than a Premier League rival.
