Real Madrid seem to be embarking into a bit of a new era for their midfield this season. Casemiro will be leaving in order to join Manchester United in a deal that could rise up to £70 million with add-ons. On the other hand, Luka Modric is also 36 years of age and cannot be expected to play at the very top level for many more years, despite his unquestionable genius.
The club have brought in the likes of Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga, while Federico Valverde is expected to play a big part in Real Madrid’s future as well.
Casemiro’s exit was unexpected without a doubt but Carlo Ancelotti has seemed to hint that the club might not end up making a midfield signing this summer, despite the Brazilian’s exit. Instead, Los Blancos could depend on the six midfielders that they already have.
Interestingly, Casemiro’s signing might have actually come at a decent time for the club, as they seem to have big plans for next summer. As tweeted out by Jan Aage Fjortoft, Jude Bellingham will be Real Madrid’s first priority in midfield next summer. Liverpool are also believed to be interested in the Borussia Dortmund star.
Real Madrid’s midfield priority for next summer revealed
Bellingham has been a top player for Borussia Dortmund for a while already, proving his quality in both German domestic competitions as well as in Europe. Thus, it is almost unbelievable that he is still just 19 years of age. He has also represented the England national team on several occasions.
Bellingham has the quality to be the best midfielder in the world one day. Thus, if Real Madrid are able to sign him, it could be a major coup.
It could take a transfer fee close to or even beyond €100 million to sign Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund. The huge figure that Real Madrid have received from Casemiro’s departure could come in handy then.
Now, it remains to be seen what the future holds. There will certainly be tough competition over Bellingham’s signature.
