After signing Antonio Rudiger and Aurelien Tchouameni during the 2022 summer transfer window, Real Madrid has not made any notable moves since. Huge expectations were placed on the Kylian Mbappe deal, which was assumed to be merely a formality at one point until the Frenchman chose to stay at Paris Saint-Germain.

The exits of some veteran players, including Marcelo, Gareth Bale, and Isco, very well sum up Real Madrid’s window thus far. This is a significant underperformance compared to expectations. Casemiro’s unexpected exit has only served to infuriate the supporters more over this transfer window, if anything.

At the time of writing, there is still a little more than a week until the summer window closes officially, and we feel there are still key movements that the Spanish club have to make in order to strengthen the squad in the days that remain. Here are three such moves:

3. Departure of Marco Asensio

Not to be too harsh, but Marco Asensio is no longer the player he once was. Since his season-ending ACL injury in 2019, the player looks to have lost a piece of the dazzling ability which was thought to be destined to lead Real Madrid’s next generation.

The right flank under Asensio is virtually always fruitless, with very little creative or scoring opportunities created by the Spaniard’s foot. Except for a few inconsistent displays of decent games that provide brief bursts of optimism that fades sooner than expected, the 26-year-old does not trace back often, nor does he add on the scoreboard in any noteworthy fashion.

In the best interests of both the club and the player, it is essential to find a new place for Asensio where he can get considerably more playing time than Carlo Ancelotti is expected to give him. The Italian might give Rodrygo more opportunities ahead of the Spaniard.

AC Milan were believed to have great interest in the winger at the start of the transfer window, but it has since diminished.
