Carlo Ancelotti calls Real Madrid superstar ‘immortal’
Real Madrid began their post-Casemiro era with a 4-1 win over Celta Vigo, away from home. The Brazilian leaving for Manchester United is a blow to Carlo Ancelotti’s side for sure but it did not look like that on this occasion, as the midfield looked in particularly good form.
Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga both looked impressive, which will give Real Madrid fans hope for the future. But one man who continues to shine despite his age is Luka Modric.
Modric is now 36 years of age but is showing no signs of slowing down. He might not have had his long-time midfield partner, Casemiro, by his side, but that did not seem to have any effect on his performance. The Croatian superstar found the back of the net when the score was tied at 1-1 and inspired Real Madrid to victory, to send them to the top of the La Liga table.
Ancelotti is without doubt a big fan of the Real Madrid midfield maestro and hailed him as ‘immortal’. As reported by Marca, the Italian manager said:
"“He’s immortal. He’s always prepared, he always plays very well. His goal changed the game, until then it was an even and competitive game. They pressed well and we had difficulties. In the second half we improved the start and the transitions were spectacular.”"
Ancelotti hails Real Madrid superstar as ‘immotal’
Modric has been one of the best midfielders in the world for a long time and is a bona fide Real Madrid legend.
According to stats from Transfermarkt, Modric has made 438 appearances for Real Madrid till now, scoring 31 goals and provided 72 assists in the process.
It is easy to forget but it did not start smoothly for Modric at the Santiago Bernabeu. In fact, for a long time, he was considered as a transfer flop, before coming into his own. And how he has come into his own, playing a huge part in five Champions League triumphs for Los Blancos and even winning a Ballon d’Or. He is still the only player to break the duopoly that Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have had over the award for the past decade-and-a-half.
He is 36 years of age though and it would be wrong to expect him to continue playing at this level for long. So enjoy him while you can.
