Many people had expected Erling Haaland to be a Real Madrid player this summer, when he ended up leaving Borussia Dortmund. Ultimately, that did not turn out to be the case though as the Norwegian superstar ended up joining Manchester City instead, a club that his father had played for.
Haaland is without doubt one of the top strikers in the game today and has made a very bright start to life in the Premier League. Now, it remains to be seen if he proves to be the final piece of the puzzle, in Manchester City’s chase to win the Champions League.
Of course, Real Madrid would like to have a say in that as the current holders of the Champions League trophy. But it looks like Haaland admires one of Los Blancos’ players in Karim Benzema.
Benzema enjoyed a magnificent 2021/22 campaign and played a huge part in Real Madrid’s Champions League win. Haaland is clearly a big fan of the French striker’s ability to continue growing better, even at 34 years of age. As reported by FourFourTwo, the Manchester City superstar said:
"“You can never stop looking for new ways to become better.“Look at Karim Benzema at Real Madrid. He’s 34 now, and suddenly he’s developed into an even better player over the last couple of years – that’s insanely good. I want to always do that.”"
Haaland showers praise on Benzema as Real Madrid star keeps getting better
A lot of people would argue that last season was Benzema’s best campaign ever and he is the hot favourite to lift the Ballon d’Or this year.
It remains to be seen if that turns out to be the case or not, but Benzema seems to be heading for another big season, as Real Madrid are pinning their goalscoring hopes on the French striker once again.
Fortunately though, the Frenchman has never let Real Madrid down through the course of his career.
Many even argue that he had to sacrifice a lot to accommodate Cristiano Ronaldo as the focal point of Real Madrid’s attack and since the Portuguese legend’s departure, Benzema has taken his game to a whole different level.
