Real Madrid were handed three away games on the trot to start their La Liga title defence and till now, they have managed to navigate through two of them. A 2-1 win away at Almeria was followed by a much more convincing display and a 4-1 win over Celta Vigo. As a result, Los Blancos sit at second in the table, behind only Villarreal, who have a better goal difference. Only Real Betis and Osasuna have won their first two league games of the season as well.

Real Madrid’s next game of the season is against Espanyol, once again away from home, and if they manage to win and results go their way in the other games, the defending Spanish champions could find themselves back on the top of the table.

Real Madrid have been handed a timely boost ahead of the game as well though. Pictures have emerged on social media of Toni Kroos being back in training.

Kroos started the first game of the season vs Almeria but was then left out of the game against Celta Vigo as he was suffering with flu. It looks like he is back to health once again and will hopefully be available to take on Espanyol.

This game against Espanyol will be their last of the trio away from home before they return to Santiago Bernabeu to face Real Betis, in what promises to be a tough game for Los Blancos.

It remains to be seen how things turn out but one has to admit that Carlo Ancelotti’s side will be the heavy favourites vs Espanyol.

Espanyol are yet to win their first La Liga game of the season, and have one point from their first two matches.
