Real Madrid will go hunting for their 15th Champions League title this season. That is a number that every other team in Europe can only dream of but is a reality for Los Blancos. Not many people had given them a chance of winning it all last season, but Carlo Ancelotti’s side just refused to lose, even when they looked down and out.

It does feel like a lot of people had been taking Real Madrid lightly in Europe ever since the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo in 2018. They won’t be making that mistake this time around and the Spanish giants have been placed as one of the favourites to win the competition again. They are the only team ever to retain the cup with the big ears.

Real Madrid have learned their group for this edition of the Champions League as well, as they have been placed with RB Leipzig, Celtic and Shakhtar Donetsk.

While those are some big names, one would think that Ancelotti’s side will be more than confident of topping the group. UEFA Champions League tweeted out:

The toughest team are without doubt RB Leipzig out of those three. The German side have enjoyed a brilliant rise in recent years and are now arguably the third best team in Germany, if not second ahead of Borussia Dortmund.

Thus, Real Madrid will have to keep an eye on them, as they have some top talent like Christopher Nkunku already as well as a returning Timo Werner, who has caused Los Blancos troubles in the past.

Celtic will provide Real Madrid with a tricky tie as well, especially away in Glasgow, which is considered by many as the best atmosphere in all of Europe.

On paper, they might not be the strongest team in the competition, but they have caused big teams problems in recent times and hold a win over Real Betis in the Europa League last season. Under the management of Ange Postecoglou, they are playing some incredibly attacking football as well and won a league and cup double in Scotland last season, against all expectations.

The third team are Shakhtar Donetsk and it will be very interesting to see what they bring to the table. They are the toughest of the three to judge, because of the situation in Ukraine. They did top their league last time around, which had to be cut short.

Shakhtar have caused some upsets in Europe over the years, but one would think this might turn out to be Real Madrid’s easiest tie of the three.
