Manchester United already shocked the football world once this summer by signing Casemiro from Real Madrid in a deal that could rise up to £70 million with add-ons. Many might feel that the figure is too high for a 30-year-old defensive midfielder but then, it makes sense for the Red Devils. Their midfield has been an area of weakness for years, and the club have not won a single piece of silverware in five seasons now.

Casemiro is arguably the most decorated defensive midfielder of his generation, having won five Champions League titles, three La Liga trophies, a Copa del Rey and several other competitions with Real Madrid, as well as Copa America with the Brazil national team.

And now, it looks like Manchester United have their eyes set on another one of Carlo Ancelotti’s players. The Red Devils are ready to make a move for Marco Asensio.

As tweeted out by Relevo, Manchester United are determined to make a formal offer to Real Madrid of more than €30 million for Asensio. Other English and Italian clubs are also interested. But, a deal could be difficult as Ancelotti is counting on him for the season.

Should Real Madrid let the winger join Manchester United?

The situation of Asensio at Real Madrid right now is complicated to say the least. His current deal runs out next summer and he has not agreed to an extension till now.

Thus, it would make sense for the club to let Asensio leave, especially if an offer of more than €30 million comes in. But at the same time, one has to consider the lack of options in the forward areas at the moment, to the point that Federico Valverde has been converted into a winger.

So, it will be interesting to see what Real Madrid decide to do regarding the future of Asensio. Till now, he has only made one appearance this season, as a substitute against Celta Vigo.

He did make a positive contribution last season though. According to stats from Transfermarkt, Asensio scored 12 goals and provided 2 assists in 42 appearances across all competitions in the 2021/22 campaign.
