UEFA has officially named the Team of the Season for the 2021/2022 season, and fan reactions have been divided, as one as to wonder, have they snubbed a couple of Real Madrid’s players? The team is structured as follows:
Thibaut Courtois; Andy Robertson, Virgil Van Dijk, Antonio Rudiger, Trent Alexander-Arnold; Luka Modric, Fabinho, Kevin De Bruyne; Vinicius Jr, Karim Benzema, and Kylian Mbappe.
As can be observed, four players out of eleven are from Real Madrid, the team that won the Champions League after defeating Liverpool FC, which has an equal number of players in the Team of the Season.
We am not arguing that as Real Madrid won the tournament, there should be more Real Madrid players on the TOTS, but rather that some of the players included on this squad simply did not have a better season than the Real Madrid players, who have been left out.
Two Real Madrid players deserved to be in UEFA’s Team of the Season
It should also be emphasized that the Team of the Season is based only on which player had the best statistical performance during the season, which, in our opinion, is a flawed criterion to begin with.
We will go into more detail about other prominent attributes that should be given more weight before picking this team in this article on two Real Madrid players who should have been included in the Team of the Season but weren’t.
