Real Madrid are the defending La Liga champions and have made a bright start to the campaign, winning both of their games till now. The same cannot be said about their city rivals Atletico Madrid. Diego Simeone’s side had a poor defence of their title last season and have already fallen behind this time around, having tasted defeat.
At the moment, it does not feel like Atletico Madrid can compete with the likes of Real Madrid or Barcelona, who have strengthened significantly this summer, in the La Liga title race. In fact, there is a potential that the likes of Villarreal and Real Betis might possibly have stolen a march on them.
Thus, it should not come as a surprise to anybody that the club are looking to improve their squad further and it looks like they have a former Real Madrid player in their sights.
As reported by TUTTOmercatoWEB, Atletico Madrid have requested the loan transfer of Sergio Reguilon. The Spaniard had made a bright start to life in the Premier League at Tottenham Hotspur but seems to have fallen behind in the pecking order since then, under the management of Antonio Conte.
Atletico Madrid have requested the loan of the former Real Madrid defender
Reguilon came through the Real Madrid youth system and many believed that he deserved to be a part of the first-team picture of Los Blancos as well, after a very successful loan spell at Sevilla.
Unfortunately, he never managed to take that next step though and instead, found himself on his way out of the club and joining Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2020.
Things have not gone quite as smoothly as expected there either and now, it looks like he could be looking for a new home once again, at least on a temporary basis.
Could Reguilon end up joining the city rivals of the club that he came through? It has not been a rare instance in recent years to be honest.
