Real Madrid have only brought in Aurelien Tchouameni and Antonio Rudiger this summer, and it looks unlikely that they will be adding further stars to their squad. On the other hand, many have departed the club in this window, including long-term players like Gareth Bale, Marcelo, Isco and Casemiro, who completed a shock move to Manchester United. And there could be more to follow.
Marco Asensio is another one who could be on his way of Santiago Bernabeu. He is in the final 12 months of his contract with the club. Thus, it might be Real Madrid’s last chance to get a transfer fee out of his exit.
On the other hand, the Spaniard is not a starter either, and has only featured once this season, as a substitute against Celtic Vigo. There does not seem to be any lack of interest in his signature though, with the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal being linked.
It is believed that Real Madrid are willing to part ways with Asensio for a transfer fee around €30 million. And as reported by the Mirror, sources close to the player suggest that Arsenal are in the box seat to land him.
Arsenal are leading race to sign Real Madrid winger
Asensio might not have been a starter for Real Madrid, but he did make an impressive contribution last season. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he scored 12 goals and provided 2 assists in 42 appearances.
Thus, it is clear that he is an effective player but at the same time, he has never quite broken out and become a superstar like he was expected to.
It might be the right time for Real Madrid and Asensio to part ways. On the other hand, Arsenal are enjoying a tremendous season and are top of the Premier League but need a winger.
