Real Madrid have a lack of options at striker right now. Yes, Karim Benzema is arguably the best in the world in that position and is very likely to win the Ballon d’Or, but beyond him, there is a severe lack of options there. Mariano Diaz does not seem anywhere near the first-team right now, and could even end up sealing a move away from Santiago Bernabeu in this window itself.

If that happened, it would leave Benzema as the only striker at the club. And then, one has to wonder what the situation would be if the Frenchman picked up an injury that kept him out for any vital games. We saw Real Madrid’s display without him against Barcelona last season.

Thus, it is important that Real Madrid at least bring in someone who can provide cover for Benzema, who for all his brilliance, is 34 years of age and needs rest from time to time.

One player who could be perfect for that role is Raul de Tomas, who came up through the Real Madrid youth system and made a solitary appearance for Los Blancos, but has gone on to achieve considerable success elsewhere.

Real Madrid should consider re-signing former youth star, who is a Spanish international now

According to stats from Transfermarkt, De Tomas scored 17 goals and provided 3 assists in 34 La Liga appearances for Espanyol last season. Before that, he had enjoyed a tremendous campaign in the second division as well.

Thus, he is a striker in top form right now. He has also represented the Spanish national team on a few occasions and has been linked with the likes of Manchester United and Bayern Munich in recent weeks.

In many ways, De Tomas could be the perfect signing for Real Madrid to solve their issues up front. He knows the club well already, has proven himself in La Liga and it is not expected to take a huge transfer fee to sign him.
