Most of Real Madrid’s transfer business this summer has revolved around exits. Long-time stars like Gareth Bale, Isco and Marcelo were always expected to leave, but Casemiro’s departure, in order to join Manchester United, did come as a surprise to many. There could be more to follow though, even though the transfer window slams shut in a few days.
Most of the recent rumours have revolved around the future of Marco Asensio, as he has been linked with clubs like Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal. But Alvaro Odriozola could be on his way out as well.
Odriozola arrived at Real Madrid in the summer of 2018 but has never managed to establish himself in Los Blancos’ first-team. He has had loan spells at clubs like Bayern Munich and Fiorentina in the past, and could now be on his way back to former club, Real Sociedad.
As reported by Noticias de Gipuzkoa, Real Sociedad is negotiating a return on loan for Odriozola this season. It is an option that the player likes.
Real Madrid player could make a return to his former club this summer
Odriozola might have arrived at Real Madrid in 2018 but according to stats from Transfermarkt, he has made only 43 appearances for the club till now.
His loan spell at Bayern Munich was nothing to write home about either, while he did have a decent time at Fiorentina.
Carlo Ancelotti also has Dani Carvajal and Lucas Vazquez as options at right-back and as a result, it is hard to see Odriozola getting any significant playing time this season either.
Thus, a return to Real Sociedad, the club whose youth system he came through and where he made a name for himself as one of the brightest prospects in La Liga, makes a lot of sense for Odriozola.
It is believed that Real Sociedad are confident that they will be able to close the deal for Odriozola’s return soon.
