There is very little time left in the summer transfer window but the futures of a few Real Madrid players are still up in the air. The club have mostly focused on departures, letting go of stars like Casemiro, Gareth Bale, Marcelo, Isco and several more. And the name of Alvaro Odriozola could be added to that list soon.

Odriozola arrived at Real Madrid in the summer of 2018 but has never managed to establish himself at Santiago Bernabeu. He has spent loan spells away at Bayern Munich and Fiorentina as well.

But with no clear path into the Real Madrid first-team, with Dani Carvajal and Lucas Vazquez appearing to be ahead of him in the pecking order, Odriozola leaving would not come as a major surprise. He has recently been linked with a return to Real Sociedad but now, it appears that another La Liga side have joined the race for his signature.

As reported by Marca, Villarreal are considering a move for Odriozola. He is believed to be on top of their list of candidates, as Pervis Estupinan recently left for the Premier League while Juan Foyth picked up an injury.

Villarreal want to sign Real Madrid player after recent exit and injury

Odriozola had established himself as one of the brightest young prospects in La Liga during his time at Real Sociedad but he has failed to fulfil his potential since joining Real Madrid.

His loan spell at Fiorentina was decent, while there is nothing to write home about from his temporary stint with Bayern Munich.

A return to Real Sociedad would make a lot of sense for Odriozola, who came up through the club’s youth ranks. On the other hand, a move to Villarreal could interest the Spaniard as well, as the Yellow Submarine seem to be destined for big things under the management of Unai Emery.
