Real Madrid might be thin in certain areas of the pitch and have taken a risk by not adding cover their this summer but goalkeeper is not one such position. In Thibaut Courtois they have argubaly the best between the posts. The Belgian put in a legendary performance in the final of the UEFA Champions League against Liverpool and played a key part in Los Blancos’ 14th European triumph.

On the other hand, Real Madrid also have Andriy Lunin in their ranks, who is very highly rated and could potentially get a few more chances this season.

Thus, it is hard to see any other goalkeeper breaking into the first-team picture anytime in the near future and that has seen one of Real Madrid’s youngsters leave.

As reported by Girona’s official website, the club and Real Madrid have reached an agreement for the signing of Toni Fuidias. The young goalkeeper has signed a contract for three seasons, until June 2025.

Real Madrid youngster has left the club on a permanent basis to join Girona

While Fuidias was highly rated during his time at the youth level as well, it is safe to say that his chances of getting playing time for Real Madrid’s senior team were slim at best this season. At 21 years of age, he needs to be playing regular football in order to develop.

Thus, leaving Santiago Bernabeu makes sense. Now it remains to be seen if he will get considerable playing time at Girona or not. The club are currently sitting at 13th in the La Liga table.

While it is always sad to see one of the club’s youth graduates leave, at the same time, that is just the reality of playing for a club the size of Real Madrid, where opportunities are limited, even for the best youngsters in world football.
