Five takeaways from Real Madrid’s first three La Liga games
4. Tchouameni is the real deal
Real Madrid’s big signing of the summer was Aurelien Tchouameni. The French midfielder arrived from AS Monaco for a large sum but one that many didn’t mind as they knew what the 22-year-old is capable of and he was a must-have for the team. He was expected to learn from Casemiro, get some time to adjust, and eventually take over in a year or two. That seemed like the perfect plan until Casemiro’s shock exit to Manchester United. After that, Tchouameni suddenly had the pressure to take over now, not in a year or two. Right away. And he did it with a smile.
The midfielder started the opening game of the season, while Casemiro was still in the squad, and struggled to really put his stamp on the game. He was unable to keep up with how the match was unfolding and eventually, Ancelotti decided to take him off. Casemiro would surely start the next game but by then he was gone and Tchouameni was the man chosen again as he showed massive improvement to his game. He connected well with Eduardo Camavinga and was a menace for anyone trying to get past him. As well as that game went against Celta Vigo, it was still nothing compared to what we saw in the third game against Espanyol.
In the latest game, Tchouameni was able to show everyone who didn’t already know that he’s also a threat moving forward. His assist to Vinicius Junior was one that any of us can watch on replay time and time again. That pass was just the cherry on top of a dominant performance but one which he will hopefully continue to improve upon.
Aurelien Tchouameni isn’t perfect just yet but no one expects him to be. But only three games into his Real Madrid career, many have already begun singing his praises and he has changed the minds of fans that were left worried after a poor performance in Almeria on the opening day. One thing is for certain though: Tchouameni is the real deal.
