Real Madrid: 3 players from Shakhtar, Leipzig and Celtic to watch out for
1. Timo Werner – RB Leipzig
Timo Werner has ignited in Germany once again after returning to RB Leipzig following a murky spell with Chelsea. Even while at Chelsea, Werner enjoyed playing Real Madrid and has scored two goals in the last four encounters between the clubs, and he will be eager to improve his record against the Spanish giants this time again.
What makes Werner so distinctive? Is that his movement? Or his command of the ball? It’s neither of the two, but rather his unpredictability. The German international is so flippant and out-of-the-way on the field that his moves are mostly just sudden, which is also what allowed him to score at the Santiago Bernabeu last season.
Werner’s playmaking abilities are possibly the most underestimated aspect of his skill set. He is proactive in calling out for passes and quite creative in exploiting spaces to generate chances for teammates in better positions, as well as occasionally attempting shots himself, which brings us back to his unpredictability.
Werner, with his fast feet and ability to transition between pivotal spots up and down the field as an offensive midfielder or a pure striker, might pose a significant threat to Real Madrid and alter an already difficult tie. And don’t forget his pace, they call him ‘Turbo Timo’ for a reason.
