Marco Asensio was linked with a move away from Real Madrid all summer. The Spaniard had not signed an extension with the club, and as a result, there were some rumours which suggested that Los Blancos wanted him to leave in this window itself, rather than risk watching him walk out for nothing a year later.

Late on in the summer transfer window, there were even suggestions that Asensio was frantically looking to leave the club, in search of regular playing time. It must be pointed out that he has made only one appearance this season, that too as a substitute, against Celta Vigo.

But ultimately, Asensio did not end up leaving Real Madrid this summer and has ended up staying. And he is still expected to have a role to play in this side, even though he is nowhere near a regular starter at this point of time.

While the Spaniard might not have left this summer, it does not look like that he has much of a long-term future at the club though. As reported by Mundo Deportivo, Asensio has already made a decision about his future. That decision is to stay at Real Madrid until his contract ends in 2023.

Thus, even though Asensio is still a Real Madrid player, do not expect him to sign a contract extension, unless something unexpected happens through the course of the campaign.

When Asensio first broke into the Real Madrid first-team, he was expected to be the next superstar of Los Blancos.

It is safe to say that that has not worked out. In fact, Asensio has not even been able to establish himself as a regular starter for the club. Thus, him leaving Real Madrid next summer might be the best step for all parties.
