Real Madrid have been placed in a relatively easy group in the UEFA Champions League this season. Los Blancos will come up against Celtic, RB Leipzig and Shakhtar Donetsk in Europe’s elite competition, as they look to defend their crown and win the competition for the 15h time. Carlo Ancelotti’s side will be kicking off their campaign against the Scottish champions this midweek.
While Real Madrid will be confident of their chances of topping their group, one major complaint that fans have had this season is regarding the strength of their squad.
Real Madrid have not made too many additions over the summer transfer window and instead, more players have left than they have come in, even though they have brought in two fantastic players in the form of Aurelian Tchouameni and Antonio Rudiger.
One of the areas which seems to have the least depth at the moment is striker and perhaps Real Madrid’s squad for the UEFA Champions League is indicative of that lack of back up options to Karim Benzema up front.
Surprise name included in Real Madrid’s Champions League squad
As reported by UEFA, Real Madrid’s squad for the Champions League has been revealed. And it includes a very surprising name, that of 17-year-old Spanish wonderkid, Iker Bravo.
Bravo was brought in on loan from Bayer Leverkusen late in the summer transfer window and was expected to be involved with the Castilla side. But now, the young striker finds himself as part of Ancelotti’s Champions League squad. He is the youngest member and was not expected to be there, to be very honest.
This just goes on to show the lack of options that Real Madrid have up top at the moment, in case Benzema ends up picking up an injury. The only other recognised striker in the squad is Mariano Diaz.
